Gloria Barbour

Gloria Jean Barbour, Gloria Barbour (Ferran) passed away Monday, February 23, 2015, at age 65, after a series of accidents which compromised her health.

She was born and raised in Seattle. She went to Holy Angels High School in Ballard, and graduated in 1968.

While working at the phone company she met John Barbour at a friend's garage sale where he asked her out on their first date. They were married on May 8, 1970, and she moved during the next three years from Seattle to Nashville and to Riverside, CA as a U.S.A.F. wife. In February 1975, Gloria and family moved into their current home in Tacoma.

She worked at Tacoma Public Library and enjoyed gardening, reading, and traveling. Over the years, she traveled with her husband and family to all fifty states, Canada, and Mexico. In 1984 Gloria traveled Europe and the U.S.S.R. with her father.

She was a member at Bethany United Methodist Church and managed the food bank, coordinated the community dinners, and helped with rummage sales.

Joseph and Ethel Ferran (parents) preceded her in death. Gloria is survived by her loving husband, John, of almost 45 years, her caring children Cheryl Myers (David Line), Charlotte La Prade, Jenean Barbour, and Desiree Barbour, cherished grandchildren Craig and Julia Myers, loving sister Glenda Magsayo (Mike) and two brothers, niece Becky Sego, cousins, especially Judy Wenslick, and other relatives.

Special thanks to a very close friend, Jan Sego, for always being there for Gloria. Her other friends were Shirley Fouts, Brenda Jones-Stewart, and many friends from Bethany. Gloria had many precious adopted grandchildren. Thanks to all our friends for your kindness and prayers. Her greatest achievement was raising four wonderful girls.

A celebration of life service was held at Bethany U.M.C., 5634 S. Park Ave., Tacoma, WA 98408, on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at 2pm.
